Handling signature purposes in workflow systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
In paper-based workflow systems, signatures of individuals or groups of people have been used extensively for various purposes. Currently there are numerous studies on computerizing workflow systems. Also there are studies on implementing digital signatures in electronic media. But the diversified purposes of a signature in workflow makes a straight-forward implementation of digital signature schemes inadequate. There are few studies on the implication of different signature purposes on electronic workflow systems. The purposes of signatures are closely associated with the two modes of decision making, namely single and group. These two modes of decision making in turn lead to single and group signatures. This paper reports our comprehensive studies on signature purposes. These include the analysis of common signature purposes in workflow, classification of these purposes, mode of decision making associated with these signature purposes and their classifications, a design of data structure which can capture these information for processing in workflow systems, signing and validation requirements for handling these signature purposes, and finally an architecture to be incorporated in workflow engine for handling these signature purposes. In summary, this paper addresses a commonly neglected problem in information systems research: management control by signature in workflow.

متن کاملExtending the Liaison Workflow Model and Engine to Support Different Signature Purposes
Currently, many software systems are developed in offices geographically distributed in different locations. Furthermore, it is also common for a software system development project contracting to different software houses. These contracted software development projects, very ojien, are further sub-contracted to some other software houses. These software development modes can be supported and m...
متن کاملException Handling in Workflow Systems1
In this paper, defeasible workflow is proposed as a framework to support exception handling for workflow management. By using the “justified” ECA rules to capture more contexts in workflow modeling, defeasible workflow uses context dependent reasoning to enhance the exception handling capability of workflow management systems. In particular, this limits possible alternative exception handler ca...
متن کاملProduct Based Workflow Design with Case Handling Systems
Case handling systems offer a solution to the lack of flexibility and adaptability in workflow management systems. Because they are data driven they potentially provide good support for Product Based Workflow Design (PBWD). In this paper we investigate to which degree current workflow technology, in particular two case handling systems (FLOWer and Activity Manager), are able to support PBWD. Th...
متن کاملProcess change identification using workflow specification matching
Adaptive workflow systems and dynamic-change handling methodologies have been a focus of current workflow development. The goal of such systems is to develop a framework that allows changes to be carried out dynamically. However, a systematic change management approach that ensures changes are properly evaluated, implemented and reviewed has yet to be developed. A dynamic workflow system can be...
